Firmly established (since 1987), CLYDEBUILT are one of Scotland's leading puppet theatre companies

The company retains the original core members: Stephen Smart and Leigh McCalister and tour throughout the UK and Europe.  Clydebuilt have also toured to the Middle East, and visited China in 2008.

The company is very experienced and has a wide touring circuit taking in many theatres throughout the country including Malvern Theatres, The Tricycle Theatre, London and The Lowry, Salford.

The company also regularly performs at the biggest UK Puppet Festival - THE PUPPET ANIMATION FESTIVAL, SCOTLAND (30 performances in this festival in 2009).

NEWS 23 MARCH 2009

ROCK BOTTOM 'THEATRE 4 ONE' has been invited to festival in Paris in June as part of Festival Eau.  We will be performing as part of a group of THEATRE 4 ONES along with the Lempen Puppet Theatre of Skipton and are very pleased to be part of this group.

NEWS 22nd November

Clydebuilt have had the most amazing visit to schools in China - taking 'CALL OF THE LOON BIRD' and 'RED RIDING HOOD'S MAGIC PURSE' to schools in Beijing, Nanjing and Guangzhou.  The schools made us so welcome and it was fun to perform to children from many different countries. With a lot of preparation we got sets 6m wide x 3m deep down to 27 kilos in weight and with the help of the schools for some basic pieces we were able to tour freely and easily.

NEW SHOWS 2009 

The Story of 3 BEARS

No introduction needed here - this is a huge favourite with young children aged 3 - 7 years.

'A STITCH IN TIME' - is finally finished.  At Last, it has been a long haul but worth all the time and effort.   This show is a new direction for Leigh who has to make many embroidered pieces and puppets.  We have also been working closely with Simon van der Walt on the soundscape and music.

ROCK BOTTOM (THEATRE 4 ONE) is very suitable for Festivals combined with 'A STITCH IN TIME'

The majority of our shows are not suitable for outside, but we are have developed a

'THEATRE 4 ONE show titled 'ROCK BOTTOM .  Lasting 3 minutes long this is a flexible piece of theatre for one person at a time, along with interested onlookers.  This show can be performed in almost any space, inside or out, weather permitting and is suitable for festivals and any one else interested in this unusual form of puppet theatre.
