IS YOUR SCHOOL STUDYING THE VIKING, EGYPTIANS OR THE NATIVE AMERICANS?

These shows are very suitable for schools studying these themes and we provide a show and workshops package for schools – A show for a number of classes, followed by a shadow puppet making workshop with one particular class who may be studying that theme.

CALL OF THE LOON BIRD is also tied in closely with CfE as the story

explores the themes of responsibility and family values.

WORKSHOPS
We have a very varied workshop programme that can be tailored

to each individual school.
The AIM of the workshops is to encourage every child to make

and manipulate their puppet to the best of their ability.
Workshops are for children OR Teachers – In Service Days

We are working with Historic Scotland to produce educational days linked to their properties.

WORKSHOPS ARE AVAILABLE AT ST ANDREWS CATHEDRAL IN MAY FOR SCHOOLS.  MORE INFORMATION FROM HISTORIC SCOTLAND'S EDUCATION UNIT

  • SHADOW PUPPET  workshops include construction, manipulation and creating all the elements required for a simple story or theme. If you have a blackout/darkish room the puppets show up better.
  • ROD PUPPETRY – demonstration of professionally made rod puppets followed by the workshop participants making and manipulating their own rod puppets.  The construction has been simplified to fit into a much shorter time but these puppets will move as well the professionally made puppets.  Movement is everything in puppetry – if puppets can’t move well they don’t work well.
  • PUPPETRY MANIPULATION – An opportunity to learn about a fascinating variety of puppets – starting with familiar toys through to ROD PUPPETS and LIFE-SIZED BODY PUPPETS.  Explore character and movement and get advice on how to make your own puppets move and work well.
  • DROP IN WORKSHOPS - suitable for open days at museums in particular these flexible workshops allow families to come, make a puppet, and then move on to another event. Mainly cardboard puppets, we have recently covered Robert Burns and Vikings.

Workshops are a fun way to learn about making things or to link in

with a particular theme or story.

  • WORKSHOPS ARE DESIGNED FOR DIFFERENT AGE RANGES
  • MATERIALS ARE USUALLY PROVIDED (Except for Rod Puppetry where we ask for fabric and a wooden spoon).
  • LIMITED NUMBERS PER SESSION
  • WE ARE FLEXIBLE TO YOUR NEEDS AND REQUIREMENTS

“One of the best IN – Service days we have ever had” – Fife Council

"Clydebuilt were simply wonderful, they were very flexible to our needs and provided two magical performances which

the children still talk about" -

PRE SCHOOL SHOWS
Our shows are all designed with theatres in mind, but the stage design is flexible and can be adapted to fit into small spaces.  We often take our shows to schools with no facilities.  Please phone and ask as we are very happy to tour all our younger children shows to schools.  Suitable shows for this are:

Stephen and Leigh both have criminal record checks through ‘Disclosure Scotland’ and will send this to your organisation if required.

The aim of all our shows and workshops in a school/ education situation is to encourage the children to get as much out of the experience as possible by participating, asking questions, looking at and discovering how puppets are designed and work.  The puppeteers are only too happy to talk to the children after the performance if the time allows.
